Why Choose Ty Uphoff Piano Tuning
Plays the piano
In addition to his expertise in piano care and maintenance he also teaches piano classes locally. While being capable at playing the piano may not be required to service one, playing well enough to speak the language of the most discerning players is critical when it comes to bringing the best out of their instruments.
"While a passion for music and for sharing music is arguably not necessary for fine work on a piano, I couldn't imagine doing this without it." - Ty
When choosing a technician, experience matters. Ty Uphoff began his technical training at the age of 16. With over two decades of experience in multiple states he has serviced thousands of instruments. It takes years of training to learn the skills necessary to service a piano and more years afterwards to be able to do both quality work and do so in a timely manner. While experience is an important component of choosing your technician, arguably one could have decades of experience without advancing their knowledge.
Beginning with a one on one apprenticeship Ty continues to further his education through monthly meetings of the local Piano Technicians Guild that include technicals on many varying aspects of piano technology, he attends week long annual international conventions, continues to train with major manufacturers, and he attends regular webinars with industry leaders in various specific skills of the trade. Through extensive testing he has passed all the requirements to become a Registered Piano Technician of the Guild, a credential achieved by fewer than a ten active technicians locally and fewer than 2,500 piano technicians worldwide.

Our home came with a 90-year old baby grand (probably because whoever got it in here realized they'd never get it out.) When we wanted to get it tuned we chose Ty due to the multitude of positive reviews we found online. He didn't disappoint. Ty got our old, neglected piano sounding beautiful and offered advice to keep it that way. He genuinely cared about our instrument and emailed the next day to let us know its history, having researched its origins. Highly recommend his services. -Gym Hinderer via Google+
Ty is amazing. Very knowledgeable about pianos with a clear passion for what he does and the history behind the instrument. Able to answer any questions and then some. Oh, and also does excellent tuning and action work. :) Completely impressed. - Casey Landholt via Facebook
Ty came on quick notice to visit our upright Yamaha that had gone through two moves in three years. Sour notes were quickly cured, and Ty left the piano sounding wonderful again. He was kind and considerate, and he handled my two little helpers hanging around wonderfully! -Leslie Harris via Google+
Ty was on time and very thorough. I was pleased with his service and will recommend him to my piano students. -Jaime Condiff via Google+
I travel to piano events all over the US and have found Ty to be the best of the best. He tuned and prepped over 100 pianos for an unbelievable piano sale at the St Charles Convention Center last week. The pianos were in incredible condition during and after the sale. His attention to detail and commitment to his craft made him a pleasure to work with. He is also an excellent pianist. I would highly recommend him to everyone from novice to professional. You won't be disappointed.

Even though I am just an amateur on the piano, I recognize a person who cares about the individual and the instrument. As long as you tune you will be my tuner.

I have finally found THE person to entrust my piano too. Ty was completely professional and tremendously polite.... but his warm and professional way was outdone by his talent. My piano action is now precisely what I wanted and the sound is magnificent.
I highly recommend what I chose which was Ty's "All Day Service". My piano was regulated, voiced, cleaned and tuned.
It has never sounded so good or felt so pleasant to play since I first bought it many years ago! I recommend his service 100%.
Ty came out to give my new (to me) 67 year old Steinway S her first in-home tuning. He went above and beyond! He spent a lot of his valuable time on me and Ella. He didn't just tune her for me, he fixed a sticking F# key, which involved taking the whole action out and the close examination of all the itty bitty moving parts involved. Then, he fixed the wiggle in the lyre (learned that term from him today), and also, he fixed the squeak coming from my damper pedal's spring. [ ] He was thorough, courteous, and very willing to teach me a little about everything he was doing. Which is awesome, because I am endlessly curious and pianos in particular fascinate me! I will definitely be having Ty take care of Ella's future maintenance needs!
Ty Uphoff tuned my new Kawai K300 for the first time this morning. His office conveniently sent out several reminders leading up to the tuning and he was right on time at 10am as scheduled. He was polite, professional, and informative. The tuning sounds great! No doubt I will be calling him for my next tuning.
Ty was responsive, easy to work with, explained everything, and doesn't try to upsell services. The best part of Ty's visit is listening to him play after he has brought your instrument back to life! Thanks, Ty!
I'm very happy with my old grand piano now after Ty touched it up! He fixed my piano and made the tone so clean and bright. Thanks for doing a great job for me!
